“The Love Song of J. Alfred Prufrock” (1915) was T. S. Eliot’s (1888-
1965) first major work. It appeared in his first volume of verse, 
“Prufrock and Other Observations” in 1917. It combines urban 
imagery with strong poetic devices even though there is no fixed 
verse and only occasional rhyme.
